The Golden Escape began with my grandmother.
When she faced one of the hardest health crises of her life, I walked beside her through every step of it. And I learned things you can only learn by living them.
I know what it feels like to sit in a waiting room and watch someone you love be rushed, overlooked, and spoken over, as if she were a chart instead of a person.
I know the fear of riding to appointment after appointment, and how much heavier that fear is for the seniors who make the trip with no one beside them.
I know how hard it is to come back home when the visits end and the real struggle begins: settling into a routine again, and wrestling with everyday things that used to feel simple.
And I know what it looks like when someone finally feels safe, because I saw it on my grandmother’s face every time she reached for my hand and I was there.
Not everyone has someone to hold their hand. I built The Golden Escape so they would.
The patience, love, and loyalty I gave my grandmother is exactly what I want to give your mom, your dad, your grandparent. They will never be just another appointment to us. They will be family.
